Behind the Decks: How We Pick Our DJs

Geedup Team

We get asked a lot how we find our DJs, and the honest answer is: we go looking for the reaction, not the resume. Technical skill matters, but it's table stakes — what actually separates a good set from a Geedup set is whether the DJ can read a room full of six different cultures of music lovers and keep every one of them on the floor. We audition in real rooms, not just mixes sent over email. A set that sounds great through headphones can fall flat against a packed dance floor at 1am, and the only way to know the difference is to watch it happen live. We also prioritize range. A DJ who can move cleanly between Afrobeats, Amapiano, and Dancehall without losing the energy in the transitions will always get more time on our decks than someone who can only do one of the three exceptionally well. That range is exactly what our crowds have come to expect.
