Why Afrobeats and Amapiano Are Taking Over Canadian Dance Floors

If you've been to a party in the last two years, you've felt it: the log drum bass of Amapiano, the horn stabs and call-and-response energy of Afrobeats. These genres have moved from niche playlists to headline slots at some of the biggest events in the country. Part of it is the sound itself — built for dancing, built for a crowd, impossible to stand still to. Part of it is representation: a generation of Canadian DJs and promoters with roots across the diaspora building spaces where this music is the main event, not an afterthought. We've built our lineup around this movement from day one, and we're not slowing down. Expect more Afrobeats and Amapiano nights on the calendar all year.
